Kent-based Thunderbirds’ Sawyer Mynio makes Canada National Junior Team

Kent-based Seattle Thunderbirds defenseman Sawyer Mynio is one of 24 Canadian Hockey League (CHL) players on the Canada National Junior Team.

Canada will compete in the 2025 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Junior Championships Dec. 26 to Jan. 5 in Ottawa, Ontario.

Mynio, 19, a third-round NHL Draft pick in 2023 by the Vancouver Canucks, won the Western Hockey League (WHL) title with the T-Birds in 2023. He is from Kamloops, British Columbia.

Other countries in the 10-team tournament include Sweden, Slovakia, Germany, United States, Switzerland, Czechia, Latvia, Kazakhstan and Finland. Canada opens play against Finland on Dec. 26.

Mynio has five goals and 14 assists for 19 points in 18 games this season for the T-Birds. The T-Birds entered this week in 11th place out of 11 teams in the Western Conference of the WHL.
