Kent mobile home park fire displaces 7 people, kills family dog

Seven people were displaced and a family dog died in a recent two-alarm fire that destroyed a Kent mobile home in the 24400 block of 64th Avenue South.

About 40 fire department personnel responded to the fire that broke out just after 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6 at the mobile home park, according to a Feb. 11 email from Puget Sound Fire spokesperson Pat Pawlak. Two families were displaced.

“The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it has been determined to be accidental,” Pawlak said.

No residents were home at the time of the fire but the family dog perished, according to Puget Sound Fire. Two other manufactured homes were damaged.

The smoke column from the fire could be seen from as far away as the East Hill of Kent and from portions of Tukwila.

Firefighters arrived and found one mobile home fully engulfed in flames. The flames were also impinging on two nearby mobile homes. Due to the number of homes that were being affected by the fire, a second alarm was requested, bringing additional firefighters.

Approximately 15 fire department apparatus, command vehicles and support vehicles responded to the fire, Pawlak said.

Firefighters quickly deployed hose lines to protect the nearby mobile homes and then began extinguishing the fire. Firefighters extinguished the fire in approximately 45 minutes and then extinguished hot spots in void spaces.
