City of Kent, King County, at odds over Panther Lake annexation issue; meeting scheduled

The Kent City Council has scheduled a special meeting for 5:30 p.m. June 28 at City Hall, 220 Fourth Ave. S., to discuss property-transfer agreements with King County as part of the Panther Lake annexation to the city.

The interlocal agreements will transfer parks, greenbelt property and roads to city jurisdiction, from the county.

The Council approved most of the agreement at a June 15 meeting, but is in dispute with county officials about 40 undeveloped acres owned by the county near North Meridian Park, 22828 120th Ave. S.E., that the county did not include in the transfer of property.

City officials want the 40 acres included as part of an agreement to be used for open space and possibly a park. County officials claim the land could be sold to a developer to build affordable housing.

The County Council will consider adoption of the interlocal agreement at 1:30 p.m. June 28 in Room 1001 of the King County Courthouse, 516 Third Ave., in Seattle.
