Reporter honors Kentridge’s Erickson, Schabbing

Kentridge High School’s Hans Erickson, senior, soccer, is the Kent Reporter’s Male Athlete of the Week.
Q: What is your favorite subject in school?
A: Math.
Q: What other activities do you participate in?
A: Swimming, water polo and playing music.
Q: Person who has helped you succeed the most?
A: My mom, who has supported me and kept me on track throughout all of high school.
Q: Do you have a pre- or post-game tradition? What is it?
A: I touch the crossbar of the goal I’m defending before every half.
Q: Song you currently can’t get enough of?
A: “Use Somebody” by Kings of Leon

“Hans was the 2018 first-team NPSL Cascade Division goalkeeper. He is one of the top goalkeepers in the league and is among the leaders in saves-to-goals-against ratios. Hans has taken on a leadership role this year, on and off the field. His positive influence toward his teammates has allowed our young players to grow.”

Kentridge High School’s Hannah Schabbing, senior, tennis, is the Kent Reporter’s Female Athlete of the Week.
Q: What is your favorite subject in school?
A: English.
Q: What other activities do you participate in?
A: Hiking, backpacking, watching movies and spending time with friends.
Q: Person who has helped you succeed?
A: My team helps me become a better player. In class, my teachers motivate me to become a better student. Outside of school, my family helps me become a better version of myself.
Q: Do you have a pre- or post-game tradition? What is it?
A: After each game I will blast the song “Hallelujah” because it puts me in a hyped mood, whether we lose or win. It’s always important to restart after each match, and that song helps.
Q: Song you can’t get enough of?
A: “Girl Gang” by Gin Wigmore.
