The Kent Chamber of Commerce in January came out in support of both of the Kent School District’s levy propositions for the Feb. 9 ballot.
“We believe that investing in education is investing in our future as we train tomorrow’s workforce and urge you to support the extension levy proposed by the Kent School District,” wrote Executive Director Andrea Keikkala.
Proposition 1 replaces the district’s Maintenance and Operations levy, which accounts for 20 percent of the district’s revenue and pays for nearly all extracurricular activities and athletics, as well as contributing to district transportation, supplies and class-size reduction.
According to the district, the levy proposal was designed to keep tax rate level from the current levy through the proposed one.
Proposition 2 is a replacement for the district’s technology levy. The money would be used to maintain the district’s technology programs, including the replacement of student and teacher computers as they become outdated.
