The Kent Crusaders Girls' Rugby team

The Kent Crusaders girls’ rugby team gave sports fans an exciting view into their sport May 9 at Kent’s French Field.

Playing between halves of the Seattle Majestics women’s tackle football game, the girls demonstrated the prowess that’s led to their status for the last 10 years as Washington’s state rugby champions.

In addition to taking the state title every year since 2000, the girl Crusaders have competed in the national tournament every year since 2000, winning the national title in 2002. They’ve also have toured Canada, New Zealand, England and Wales.

The Crusaders girl’s team was the first high school girls’ rugby team in the nation, established in 1993.

The Crusaders also have a boys’ team that has been playing since 1991, and which has taken seven Pacific Northwest championships, in addition to playing in the national championship nearly every year since 1993.

The focus of the Crusaders’ is teaching athletes the game of rugby while instilling a spirit of teamwork, good sportsmanship, scholastic achievement and community involvement.
