City, school district representatives get sneak peek at Amazon fulfillment center

Kent city officials and representatives from the Kent School District on Monday got a first look inside Amazon’s new fulfillment center in Kent, which is scheduled to begin shipping customer orders next month.
Mayor Suzette Cooke, Council members Dana Ralph and Jim Berrios, Kent School District Superintendent Calvin Watts, members of the Student Advisory Council and Neely-O’Brien Elementary School Principal Melanie Strey toured the approximately 1-million-square-foot facility,near South 212th Street and 59th Place South.
Amazon donated $5,000 to the Neely-O’Brien Elementary after-school robotics and engineering program, Success Academy. The funds will purchase materials to build robots and help with competition fees. Amazon’s donation to the program is part of a long-term partnership with the Kent School District.
Amazon’s Kent fulfillment center, which will be the third robotics facility in Washington, is filling more than 1,200 newly created full-time positions. Associates will pick, pack and ship customer orders, working alongside innovative technologies. To apply visit, workatamazonfulfillment.com.
