Fire damages Vietnamese restaurant in north Kent

Sprinkler system helps contain fire to kitchen late Sunday night

A fire started in the 108 Vietnamese Restaurant after closing hours Sunday night in the 18100 block of East Valley Highway in north Kent.

At 11:45 p.m., fire units were dispatched to the strip mall after a fire alarm showed the sprinkler system was activated, according to a Puget Sound Fire media release.

Fire Engine 76 arrived and firefighters found smoke coming from the restaurant with water showing under the rear exit door. Crews entered the business and discovered the automatic sprinkler system was holding a kitchen fire in check. Crews shut off the system and extinguished the remaining fire.

Fire damage was kept to the kitchen with smoke damage throughout the dining area. No other businesses in the mall were damaged. The mall is in Kent, near the borders of Tukwila and Renton.

Units from Tukwila Fire and Renton Regional Fire Authority assisted Puget Sound Fire in extinguishing the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by Puget Sound Fire.
