Kent Police Blotter: Jan. 10-27

A sampling of Kent Police incidents Jan. 10-27:

Jan. 10

Parking lot robbery: 7:44 p.m., patrol was dispatched to a robbery in the parking lot of Big 5, 24200 104th Ave. SE. Five suspects threatened a man with handguns, robbing him of his belongings, including a gun, and assaulted him before leaving.

Jan. 12

Apartment assault: Officers were dispatched to the Lighthouse Apartments, 10710 SE 56th St., for the sounds of domestic violence between a male and female. Officers arrived to find a male unconscious on the sidewalk, bleeding heavily from the face. The female was cited for two counts of assault.

Robbery, shooting: 2:37 a.m., patrol responded to the 400 Kennebeck Avenue South, referencing an illegal discharge. Patrol found a woman who said she had been shot at after being robbed. Nearby patrol found numerous casings as well as two vehicles, each with firearms in plain view. The cars were seized for search warrants.

Rideshare robbery: 7:19 a.m., officers responded to a robbery at Village Green Apartments, 10400 SE Kent Kangley Road. The victim, a rideshare driver, had given a ride to the suspect, who, at the end of the ride, brandished a pistol and demanded his phone.

Juveniles robbed: 3:17 p.m., patrol responded to a robbery at Alderbrook Apartments, 412 Novak Lane. Two juveniles were walking home from school when they were approached by an unknown male who pulled their backpacks off of them and got into a vehicle. One of the passengers of the car pointed a gun at the juveniles, and the victims fled the scene.

Jan. 13

Apartment shooting: 7:13 p.m., patrol responded to a shooting at Washington Park Apartments, 11020 SE Kent Kangley Road. The victim stated he was targeted due to previously calling the police on the suspects who had broken into a vehicle. The suspects fired several rounds at the victim, who was also armed and fired back. The victim was shot in the arm and is in stable condition.

Jan. 15

Assault with a hammer: 2:16 p.m., patrol was dispatched to an assault with a hammer at 24502 110th Ave. SE. Units quickly arrived and detained the suspect. Aid was rendered to the victim. The suspect was booked into King County jail.

QFC robbery: 10:14 p.m., patrol was dispatched to a robbery at QFC, 13300 SE 240th St. The suspect entered the store and requested cigarettes; the victim walked the suspect to the checkout, where the suspect withdrew a pistol from his waistband and demanded money. The suspect was given money from the till and fled.

Jan. 16

Barbershop burglary: 9:55 a.m., patrol was dispatched to a commercial burglary of Cut Pros Barbershop, 25400 104th Ave. SE. The suspect broke through the back door of the barbershop and stole equipment and a computer from the business.

Jan. 17

Stolen motorcycle: Officers on patrol around the New Best Inn at 30th Avenue South and Kent Des Moines Road spotted a white motorcycle resembling one that had left during a conducted traffic stop. The bike was reported as stolen. The male was subsequently booked into the Kent city jail.

Assault: officers were dispatched to a victim who had fled her apartment at Ridgegate Apartments, 24808 100th Pl. SE, after reportedly being assaulted. Officers developed probable cause for the assault and wrote a search warrant to arrest the suspect. The warrant was approved, and officers arrested the suspect without incident.

Jan. 18

Commercial burglary: 12:49 a.m,. patrol was dispatched to a commercial burglary of North Sky Communications, 22517 88th Ave. S. Several thieves arrived in a truck and stole an amount of copper from a bin.

Jan. 21

Trespassing at Staples: Officers contacted two males trespassing at Staples, 25420 104th Ave. SE. They were asked to leave and refused. While running the names, one suspect fled and started a foot pursuit. The suspect started to cross SE 256th Street and tripped. Officers detained the suspect until more help arrived, and the suspect was arrested.

Chevron robbery: 5:39 p.m., patrol responded to a robbery of Chevron, 18000 E. Valley Highway. The suspect came inside the store and asked for cigarettes; rather than pay for the item, he demanded money from the till and implied a firearm. Patrol used surveillance video, linked the suspect to another incident, and apprehended the subject.

Jan. 23

Attempted burglary: Officers were dispatched to an attempted burglary that occurred overnight, around 2:50 a.m., in the 9700 block of South 212th St. The victims reported someone trying to open the residence’s front door. Video surveillance showed five suspects from two cars had attempted to enter the house.

Jan. 26

Attempted robbery: 11:53 p.m., officers responded to a robbery at Walgreens, 25600 104th Ave. SE. The suspect entered the store and demanded the cashier load money onto gift cards after pacing around. The amount he asked for required secondary approval, so the cashier told him she couldn’t, and the suspect became upset and produced a pistol. The victim got scared and backed away, so the suspect demanded her phone. She declined, and the suspect fired four to five shots and fled.

Jan. 27

Drive-by shooting: 8:40 p.m., officers responded to a drive-by shooting in the area of 112th Place SE and SE 232nd Street. The victim had noticed the suspects stealing items out of a vehicle in the parking lot of India House restaurant, 25410 104th Ave. SE. They called 911 and followed the suspect for a bit. It became clear the suspects were aware they were being followed and fired one round in an unknown direction. The victims then discontinued following the suspects.

SR 167 emphasis patrol

On Thursday, Jan. 18, eight Kent Police officers joined Washington State Patrol, Auburn Police and Pacific Police to conduct an aggressive driving emphasis on SR 167 with a specific focus on reducing the number of drive-by shootings that’ve recently occurred there.
