A sampling of Kent Police incidents June 23 to July 5:
June 23
• Construction site burglary: 5:52 a.m., officers responded to a construction site, 23200 Pacific Highway S., that had been burglarized over the weekend. The employees reported that a truck, trailer, and tools had all been stolen from the property. The trailer was tracked and recovered in Algona, but the items inside had been removed.
• Stolen iPads: Officers responded to a report of a victim tracking their stolen iPad to Kent. The victim identified a suspect and a specific apartment. Officers successfully pinpointed the suspect and recovered the victim’s stolen iPad, along with a second iPad. They continued the investigation, learning that the second iPad was taken along with a MacBook and a $25,000 laser. They collaborated with the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office to obtain a search warrant for the residence. A Kent sergeant, who had previously worked a case involving this suspect, joined them on the warrant, leading to further investigative developments.
June 24
• Cable wire theft: 5:29 a.m., officers responded to a wire theft at 68th Avenue South and South 262nd Street. A Comcast employee reported that an outage had occurred at approximately 1:15 a.m. He arrived and found the fiber optic cable had been damaged, which he estimated would cost about $30,000 to replace.
June 25
• Construction site theft: Officers responded to an ongoing theft at a construction site at 64th Avenue South and West Meeker Street. A coordinated effort by officers and sergeants led to the identification of the suspect. Officers took charge of the case, resulting in the suspect’s arrest for theft, the return of multiple items to the construction site, and the seizure of other suspected stolen items for evidence.
• Rock thrower: Officers responded to a report of a person throwing rocks at vehicles near the intersection of West Meeker Street and Washington Avenue. When they arrived, they encountered an uncooperative individual involved in other incidents earlier that evening. The individual was taken into custody without further issues.
June 26
• Stolen vehicle: Officers found a stolen vehicle at South 260th Street and Pacific Highway South after a crash. The driver stopped and cooperated, but the passenger ran into a wooded area and was quickly caught. A search of the vehicle revealed a satchel bag containing more than 2,000 blue pills.
June 28
• Shots fired: 12:27 a.m., officers responded to a non-injury shooting at 20021 104th Pl. SE. The caller reported seeing a suspect fire two rounds from a vehicle in front of the house via video. Officers found shell casings and bullet hole damage. The suspects had left when the officers arrived, and it was noted that the rounds were fired from a gray SUV.
• False robbery report: Officers responded to a report of an armed robbery at Safeway. A 14-year-old told them he was robbed at gunpoint of his scooter. Officers located the suspect and, after further investigation, found that the teen had lied about the robbery and had left his scooter unsecured outside the store.
June 30
• Commercial burglary: 2:20 a.m., officers responded to Bigfoot Construction Supply, 22342 68th Ave. S., for a reported ongoing commercial burglary. The business had been targeted earlier on June 15. The reporting person was watching live video as two suspects attempted to break in through the back door. Officers nearby arrived quickly, and the suspects fled the scene. A pursuit was authorized, and it was later discovered that one of the suspects’ vehicles had been reported stolen the day before. The suspect who was caught had a felony warrant, and the case was referred to detectives.
• Runaway daughter: 12 a.m., officers were dispatched to a reported runaway incident at an apartment complex. The mother reported her daughter missing, prompting officers to check the stepfather’s apartment. After conducting background checks, it was found that the stepfather had felony warrants. Despite searching the area, the officers were unable to locate either the runaway daughter or the stepfather. The case was forwarded for further investigations.
July 1
• Domestic dispute: 12 a.m., it was reported that during a domestic dispute, a male was preventing a female from leaving an apartment. Officers communicated with the female through a window. After determining that the situation posed a risk to her safety, and the male refused to cooperate, officers forced entry and arrested him without harming the female.
July 2
• Threats with a rifle: 9:05 a.m., officers responded to a report of threats involving a weapon during a neighborhood dispute. When they arrived, it was found that a neighbor had brandished a rifle during an argument. The suspect then turned themselves in at the police station.
• Theft: 4:37 p.m., officers responded to a shooting scene after a victim reported a theft. During a chase in a parking lot, an altercation occurred where the suspect tried to fire a weapon at the victim but was unsuccessful. The suspect was found and taken into custody.
July 5
• Erratic driver: 8:47 p.m., officers were flagged down about an erratically driven vehicle. After locating the vehicle, the driver fired a firearm and then drove erratically toward the officer’s patrol car. The driver fled on foot but was quickly apprehended by officers. The vehicle was impounded for further investigation.
