Kent Police release details of three recent DUI arrests

Total DUI arrests up to 99 this year in Kent

Kent Police made three DUI arrests last weekend giving the department 99 so far this year.

”Drive sober, be a DD (designated driver), pay for a ride, sleep over. … you literally have so many alternatives to placing your life, your loved ones lives and the lives of your community at risk,” according to a July 18 Kent Police statement.

The statement detailed three of the recent DUI arrests:

• At about 2:30 a.m. Friday, July 14, officers contacted a vehicle that was stopped and running in the middle of a street on the West Hill. A witness said it had been there for a while. The driver and only occupant was allegedly significantly impaired due to obvious drug use, according to police. He was reportedly so intoxicated he could not stand or walk unassisted. He was also in a stolen vehicle.

Puget Sound Fire responded and the suspect, a 43-year-old man, was transported to the hospital. Due to medical issues, he was not booked and remained in the hospital. He will be charged.

• At about 2:09 a.m. Saturday, July 15, officers responded to a collision on the East Hill. The suspect driver, a 26-year-old man, rear ended another vehicle causing significant damage and airbag deployment. He allegedly smelled heavily of intoxicants, according to police. He reportedly attempted to deny that he was the driver, but witnesses to the accident has stopped to give the real story. He also gave a false name, There was a box of Corona on the passenger side floor board.

Despite his attempts to reportedly mislead and misdirect, officers identified the suspect, and transported him to the hospital to await a warrant for a blood draw. Three hours after the accident the suspect’s blood was taken. He was booked for investigation of DUI and no valid operators license.

• About 2:46 p.m. Sunday, July 16, officers responded to the East Hill for a 911 call of a suspected DUI driver who had struck a parked vehicle. The suspect, a 45-year-old Kent woman, had collided with a vehicle that was parked legally and off the roadway. Her 8-year-old son was in her car when the collision occurred. No injuries were noted and he was later picked up by a family member.

The suspect allegedly smelled heavily of intoxicants, and her demeanor and speech were noticeably impaired. She was booked into jail for DUI and reckless endangerment of her child.

These drivers are all being charged; two of them went to jail the night of their arrest, according to police.
