Kent Police want the public’s help to find a hit-and-run driver who reportedly struck and killed a Kent man on the East Hill.
The collision occurred at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22 in the 23500 block of 104th Avenue Southeast, according to an Oct. 26 Kent Police media release.
Vadim Yakimov, 23, was struck and killed as he tried to cross the street in front of his home.
Witnesses told police that a pickup traveling southbound on 104th Avenue Southeast struck Yakimov. The impact threw the man into an adjoining lane of travel, where he was struck by a second vehicle.
The driver of the second car stopped immediately. The driver of the pickup slowed momentarily, then sped away.
Witnesses describe the truck as a bright yellow two-door pickup, possibly an import vehicle or similar sized American-made truck. The truck had a unique set of cargo racks on the box (see attached photo of a similar pickup).
The pickup likely sustained damage to the front facing lights and a side mirror.
Witnesses described the truck driver as a Hispanic man about 30 years old with a mustache.
“We definitely want to speak with the driver to determine what happened, said Kent Police Lt. Pat Lowery. “There are two sides to every story and we want to know what the driver saw and did.”
Kent Police ask that anyone with knowledge of the driver’s identity or the whereabouts of the vehicle to call the Kent Police at 253-856-4839. Anyone who sees the vehicle should call 911 but not attempt to contact the driver.
