Man fatally shot in Kent near Hillcrest Cemetery identified | Update

Dispute among group leads to Thursday evening, April 7 shooting; no arrest made

A man was fatally shot at about 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 7 in the area of the Hillcrest Cemetery, 1005 Reiten Road in Kent.

Quinzy Williams, 25, died of multiple gunshot wounds, according to the King County Medical Examiner’s Office media report.

Officers were dispatched to reports of shots being fired and arrived to find an unresponsive man with gunshot wounds, according to a Kent Police statement. The officers initiated life-saving efforts which were continued when paramedics arrived but the man died at the scene.

“Initial information provided indicated that a dispute erupted among the group, which escalated to gunfire,” according to police. “After shots were fired the group quickly dispersed and fled the area.”

Police did not release any information about the group or the hometown of Williams. Police have not made an arrest.

“It is believed that this incident is specific to those involved and was not a random act,” according to police.

Police are asking that anyone with information about the incident to call 911, the Kent Police tip line at 253-856-5808 or email kentpolicetips@kentwa.gov.

This is the second homicide this year in Kent. A 44-year-old Kent man was found fatally shot inside a vehicle Jan. 27 in the area of Green River Road and South 277th Street. No arrest has been made. Officers responded to the scene after a report of shots fired.

Kent had 14 homicides in 2021, eight in 2020, four in 2019 and seven in 2018.
