Orwall to receive national award for leadership to help prevent suicides

The Washington state chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) will present the Allies in Action State Award to State Rep. Tina Orwall, D-Des Moines, at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 28 at her Des Moines office.

Allies in Action is an annual awards program sponsored by AFSP whereby members of Congress, federal agencies, other mental health organizations and state representatives who have done exemplary work in preventing suicide are recognized for their actions.

Orwall will receive the award for her continued leadership over the past four years for expanding suicide prevention and mental health initiatives across the state.

Cristi Comes, AFSP-Washington state, board of directors vice chair and Grace Finch, AFSP-Washington state area director, will present the award to Orwall.
