Kent Police arrested two women on prostitution charges April 2 at a Kent hotel after undercover officers responded to an ad offering escort services.

Officers came across the escort ad at www.backpage.com in connection with a separate case and decided to call the phone number, according to the police report.

Officers arrested a 22-year-old woman for prostitution loitering and arrested a 23-year-old woman for prostitution after meeting the two women at a hotel in the 22500 block of 83rd Avenue South.

Police exchanged phone calls with one of the women before setting up to meet for sex at the hotel.

Two officers dressed in plainclothes showed up at the hotel while two other officers waited in an unmarked car to serve as the arrest team.

When the two officers met one of the women near the hotel lobby, she began to lead them up to her room when the officers confirmed the price they had agreed to pay in return for sex.

After the woman agreed to the price for sex, the two officers who were outside the hotel came in and arrested the woman. She told officers she was only an escort trying to provide a living for her children.

“If I wasn’t working as an escort I be robbing people,” the woman said to police. “I be shooting people. I be killing people.”

The woman recently had been released from the Washington Correctional Center for Women in Purdy for a prostitution sentence.

“The only reason why you cops come after prostitutes is because you can’t tax it,” the woman said to officers.

Police arrested the second woman after she arrived late at the hotel for the arranged meeting. That woman had set up the meeting. The two women reportedly met when serving time together at the Purdy prison.

• Assault

Police arrested a man for fourth-degree assault after he allegedly slapped his girlfriend in the face during an incident at about 7:33 p.m. March 31 at an apartment in the 25800 block of 26th Place South.

The woman left the apartment and called 911 from a nearby store, according to the police report.

The girlfriend told officers her boyfriend became upset because she had not cooked him anything to eat that night. He reportedly yelled at her and slapped her in the face with an open hand.

• Animals

An officer shot a sick or injured coyote April 2 that a caller reported was lying in a carport in the 700 block of Hazel Avenue North.

When officers arrived at the carport, the coyote could not lift its head and appeared to be suffering, according to the police report.

Police checked with state wildlife officers who were not going to be able to make it to Kent for an extended period of time. The police officer explained the circumstances to a state wildlife official and received the go-ahead to shoot the coyote.

• Drugs

Police cited a man for possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and for tinted windows in his vehicle that were too dark at about 1:45 p.m. March 31 in the 10400 block of Southeast 248th Street.

The officer initially stopped the car because the tinted windows appeared to be too dark, according to the police report.

When the officer talked to the driver, he noticed the odor of marijuana. The driver admitted he had smoked marijuana earlier in the morning.
