The Redondo Boardwalk along the Puget Sound in Des Moines reopened this week after a $4.7 million project to repair it following damage during a November 2014 storm.

The city of Des Moines closed the popular boardwalk because of the damage.

With support from the Federal Highway Administration ($2.3 million grant), Washington State Department of Commerce ($1.4 million), state Transportation Improvement Board ($360,000) and the City Council ($497,000), the boardwalk has been restored.

City officials thanked state Sens. Karen Keiser, D-Kent, and Mark Miloscia, R-Federal Way; state Reps. Tina Orwall, D-Des Moines, Linda Kochmar, R- Federal Way, Mia Gregerson, D-SeaTac, and Teri Hickel, R-Federal Way and Steve Gorcester of the state Transportation Improvement Board for their support in making a replacement a reality.
