The city has selected a construction company to build the World Cup Legacy Square Park in downtown Renton.
The park will be located on a currently vacant lot near the intersections of South 3rd Street and Logan Avenue, and will serve as a public viewing area for the 2026 World Cup matches, as well as a space for public events after the conclusion of the international soccer tournament next summer.
At its May 19 meeting, the Renton City Council awarded the project to the lowest bidder, Active Construction Inc., in the amount of $1,501,501. The lowest bid was over the engineer’s estimation for the cost of the project by $440,422.57.
The Puyallup-based construction company’s work on the project will include earthwork, utility installations, asphalt paving, lighting, park signage, concrete flatwork, site furnishings, landscape planting, and irrigation improvements, according to the agenda bill. In Renton, Active Construction Inc. has also worked on Phillip Arnold Park in 2023, and did the Burnett Avenue South Sidewalk and Utilities Replacement Project in 2024.
“This vacant lot is definitely an area of town that could be reimagined,” Renton administrative assistant Gina Estep previously said about the project. “Public gathering spaces we feel are a vital component of a healthy, safe community, often uplifting quality of life through human connection and activities.”
The notice to proceed for the project is set for June 16, 2025.
