The 43rd annual City of Kent Christmas Rush is set for Saturday, Dec. 13 along the Green River. The event features a 10K run and a 5K run/walk.
The 10K race starts at 9:50 a.m. followed by the 5K at 10 a.m. at Hogan Park, 24400 Russell Road, where parking is available.
Participants ages 13 and under run for free courtesy of Taylor Farms. The cost is $20 for anyone older than 13 if they register by Dec. 11. Day-of-race registration is $25 and starts at 8 a.m. Packet pick up is 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11 at Road Runner Sports, 444 Ramsay Way at Kent Station or on race day starting at 8 a.m.
A new 10K course will begin on SE 240th Street (in front of the city shops), head south on Russell Road and turn west onto Meeker Street, cross the bridge and turn north on Frager Road. Once to pedestrian bridge, cross over into Van Doren’s Landing Park and continue north. At turn around, head south along east side of river and return to start/finish line. (Experienced Christmas Rush 10K runners will recognize the return route).
The 5K course is a modified out and back. Runners will start on SE 240th in front of city shops building and head south to Meeker Street and turn right. Once over the bridge, turn north on to Frager Road remembering to stay on the left side of the road. (Running clockwise) Turn around at the appropriate spot and stay to your left side on the return trip. Runners will turn left and go over foot bridge that leads to golf course. Once over foot bridge, turn north on to the trail along the river. Follow to finish located in front of city shops building on SE 240th Street.
Awards will be given to top five winners in each age group following the race.
