Kent Reporter Athletes of the Week: Kentlake

Leone Suamtaia (Sr. Fastpitch) and Jacob Lawrence (So. Baseball) are this weeks winners.

The Kent Reporter athletes of the week for the week of April 11 are from Kentlake; Leone Suamtaia (Sr.) fastpitch, Jacob Lawrence (So.) baseball.

What do you value in your sport or about your team?

Lawrence: I value the effort and communication.

Suamtaia: Sharing strong relationships with my teammates.

What have you learned from your sport that you can take with you throughout your life/future?

Lawrence: Hard work will end up paying off.

Suamtaia: Failing is okay, it helps show your progress.

What do you do when you aren’t motivated and what helps you stay motivated?

Lawrence: I try to stay motivated but usually what helps is talking with my dad.

Suamtaia: I get advice from my mom or my friends see my mood and they help me get my motivation back.

Do you have a favorite pre-game meal?

Lawrence: Candy or a Taco Bell chicken quesadilla.

Suamtaia: Jimmy John’s sandwiches

What advice would you give to a teammate that is struggling?

Lawrence: Forget and stay confident.

Suamtaia: Always go all out. You never know when your last game will be.

From the sidelines:

Lawrence: Jacob Lawrence went 4/6 with 2 doubles, and an OPS of 1.65! Jacob has been a force in the middle of our lineup, and leads the team in quality at bats.

Suamtaia: Leone Suamataia leads the team with 7 RBI’s, batting .429, and a grand slam HR vs FW; as well as collecting a win on the mound vs. Mt Rainier – 6 strikeouts with 0 earned runs. Leone shows great leadership skills on a daily basis – as a senior, she is encouraging and is always looking to help others improve around her. We look forward to seeing her continue to put up solid numbers on the mound in the batter’s box.
