Kentwood High School grad Reese McGuire reached a career milestone over the Fourth of July weekend.

The Chicago Cubs backstop recorded the 250th hit of his Major League Baseball career, spanning eight seasons.

It was his 373rd game in the major leagues, playing for his fourth different franchise of his career.

His first career hit came against the Cleveland Indians on Sept. 6, 2018, with a double off Dan Otero. Hit 250 was against the St. Louis Cardinals at Wrigley Field on July 6 with an RBI single to right field in the bottom of the third off left-hander John King.

McGuire has played in 18 games this season for Chicago and is slashing .237/.262/.508 with five home runs. McGuire also is playing above average defense for the Cubbies this season.

Out of all backstops this season, McGuire has the eighth highest caught stealing percentage, throwing runners out at a 33% clip this season. He is outperforming his teammate Carson Kelly (26%) up to this point, although Kelly has 15 more attempts with him behind the plate.

McGuire seems to have found his role in the Windy City, and in games McGuire has played, the Cubs are 13-5.

In the Mariners’ trip to Chicago, McGuire played in two of the three games, even hitting a home run off George Kirby.
