January is National Mentor’s Month, and locally, Communities In Schools of Kent is the local non-profit that works with the Kent School District, serving students in Kent, Renton and Covington, by providing mentors and facilitating internships. Time magazine recently recognized Communities in Schools as a national organization in its Sept. 20 Annual National Service issue as the nation’s largest dropout-prevention organization.

The Seattle Thunderbirds will recognize National Mentor’s Month and CISK at their Jan. 30 home game against Everett (start time of 5:05 p.m.)

CISK also has scheduled its annual breakfast for March 16 at the Kent Senior Activity Center.

The organization continues to seek sponsors for its mission of helping local students. To learn more, visit www.kent.ciswa.org.
