Kent Police want residents to know that thieves are stealing a lot of mail this month from locked, community mailboxes.

Police have investigated about 15 community mailbox thefts since Dec. 1, according to a posting on the department’s Facebook page.

“We encourage people to pick up their mail as soon as possible after delivery and call 911 if you observe suspicious activity,” police said.

Mail theft picks up even more during the Christmas season when many gifts are sent by mail, police said.
