The Kent Land Use and Planning Board will meet at 7 p.m. Sept. 13 in Council Chambers at City Hall to discuss where to allow installation of electric-vehicle charging stations.

City staff will present options at the workshop about locations for electric vehicle charging stations as well as signage and parking spots for the vehicles.

The Legislature passed a law in 2009 that mandates local governments to allow electric vehicle infrastructure as a use in all areas not zoned for residential or critical areas. City staff is working on a zoning code amendment to comply with the law.

The Nissan Leaf, an electric car, is expected to be available to consumers in December 2010. About 1,300 Washington residents have placed deposits to reserve a Leaf, according to city staff reports.

No public testimony is taken at workshops, although residents are welcome to attend.
