National trade publication Dairy Foods has named Kent-based dairy company Smith Brothers Farms the 2014 Plant of the Year.

Smith Brothers Farms was one of 12 dairy plants throughout the United States nominated by Dairy Foods. They received the most votes in a five-week-long promotion on dairyfoods.com.

“We’re very proud of our facility, but more importantly, we’re proud of the people that have worked so hard to make it great, and all of our loyal customers who support us,” said Dustin Highland, Smith Brothers Farms CEO, “They’re the ones that deserve the recognition.”

The nomination came in last August after the family-owned company moved from a 90-year-old facility into a newer 50,000-square-foot space that puts production, warehouse and corporate headquarters under the same roof. The new facility is more modern and efficient than the former plant.

Smith Brothers Farms will be featured as Plant of the Year in the August 2014 issue of Dairy Foods.

Smith Brothers Farms has grown to be one of the largest independent retail dairies in the region, processing and delivering the freshest milk and an assortment of select Northwest products to more than 40,000 homes every week.
