The city of Kent’s Springwood Park has officially reopened with several new features after being closed for construction in spring 2024.
The $2.9 million renovation of the 11-acre park includes a new shelter, lawn space with irrigation, hill slide, swings, playground structures, a zip line, multisport court and a misting station that spritzes a fine mist to stay cool on a hot summer day.
“These renovations offer a beautiful, refreshed space for our community to gather and play outdoors,” according to a City Parks statement. “Bring your family to explore and experience this beautiful new space.”
Springwood Park is on the East Hill at 12700 SE 274th St., just south of Safeway and west of 132nd Avenue SE.
The Kent City Council approved a bid by Algona-based Terra Dynamics Inc. in March 2024 to perform the work at the popular neighborhood park. The company had the lowest responsible bid out of eight bids. Terra Dynamics is the same company that did a $3.16 million renovation of West Fenwick Park, 3808 S. Reith Road, in 2020. That project included a new field, playground and picnic shelter.
The plans a grand opening celebration at the park on Friday, July 18.
