America’s favorite musical cowboys, Riders in the Sky, bring their way-out Western wit and wacky humor to the city of Kent’s Spotlight Series.

They perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14 at the Kentwood High School Performing Arts Center, 25800 164th Ave. S.E., in Covington.

For 30 years, the Nashville-based Riders in the Sky have been keepers of the flame passed on by the Sons of the Pioneers, Gene Autry and Roy Rogers, reviving and revitalizing the Western music genre. These modern-day icons have chalked up more than 5,400 concert appearances in 50 states and 10 countries, appearing everywhere from Nashville to Carnegie Hall, and from county fairs to the Hollywood Bowl.

Their cowboy charisma and comedic flair make them naturals for television and they have appeared with everyone from Barney to Penn & Teller, according to a city of Kent media release. Their animated likenesses have shared the screen with Daffy Duck, but the animated character that history will most certainly link to Riders in the Sky is the loveable cowboy Woody, as Riders performed “Woody’s Round Up” in “Toy Story 2,” with the album of the same name garnering Riders their first Grammy Award in 2001 for “Best Musical Album for Children.”

Tickets are $30 for adults, $28 for seniors ages 55 and older and $20 for youth ages 25 and younger. Tickets are available at www.kentarts.com, by calling 253-856-5051 or at the Kent Commons, 525 Fourth Ave. N. Hours for phone and in-person sales are 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday. The box office is closed on Sunday.

The Spotlight Series is presented by the Kent Arts Commission and Kent Parks, Recreation and Community Services.
