Kent Police Blotter: April 11-27

Incidents include stolen vehicles, shots fired, pursuits, impaired driving

A sampling of Kent Police incidents April 11-27:

April 11

Stolen vehicle: A stolen Pierce County vehicle was recovered at 511 Central Ave. The registered owner’s associate recognized the vehicle, and the driver was detained while returning to it. Officers obtained a full confession, including admission to a vehicle theft and a related commercial burglary. The suspect was booked locally, and the case details were forwarded to Pierce County.

Jewelry theft: 12:25 p.m., officers responded to a theft report at a 25600 104th Ave. SE market. The victim reported that two unknown females approached under the pretense of returning a cart and celebrating a birthday. During contact, the suspects removed a necklace without the victim’s immediate knowledge.

April 12

Harassment with gun: Officers responded to a report of harassment involving a firearm. The incident occurred in the presence of a minor. The suspect was safely taken into custody without further incident. A firearm was later recovered with consent. One of the involved parties became uncooperative following the arrest.

Shots fired: 1:28 p.m., officers responded to a report of shots fired involving a juvenile near 25200 Military Road S. The suspect fled on a motorcycle. Air support tracked the suspect to a wooded area, where they were immediately taken into custody. A firearm and helmet were recovered nearby, consistent with evidence located at the scene.

April 14

Stalking arrest: Officers handled a repeat harassment case at 424 E. Gowe St. The suspect had been arrested twice before and returned again, prompting a third arrest for stalking and trespassing.

Bar disturbance: Officers responded to a disturbance at a local bar. Approximately 20 individuals were blocking exits and disrupting business operations. Although prosecution was declined, those involved were trespassed from the location.

April 15

Stolen vehicle: A vehicle reported stolen through the King County Sheriff’s Office was detected by a Flock camera at the intersection of South 228th Street and Central Avenue. The vehicle was stopped without pursuit or damage. Four occupants were detained; the driver was booked for possession of a stolen vehicle. A key programming device and blank fob were recovered.

April 17

Transit center theft: 8:15 p.m., officers responded to a theft at the transit center, 301 Railroad Ave. N. The victim reported that an unknown person took their phone after requesting to borrow it. When the victim attempted to retrieve the phone, they were physically confronted. A bystander assisted in contacting authorities.

April 18

Reckless driver: A reckless driver who had evaded officers earlier was located again. Officers deployed spike strips and used a precision immobilization technique (PIT) to stop the vehicle safely. The driver was taken into custody without further incident.

Theft: Officers were dispatched to a property on 134th Avenue Southeast, where four individuals were observed removing items into a U-Haul. All subjects were detained after attempting to flee.

April 19

Behavioral health crisis: Officers responded to a behavioral health crisis involving a subject at 13251 SE 235th Street. The situation was resolved safely, and the subject was taken into protective custody. Another household member secured a firearm prior to police arrival.

April 20

DV order violation: Officers responded to a domestic violence order violation. The suspect initially refused to exit the residence but later complied and was arrested. While in custody, the individual attempted to escape but was restrained and transported to jail.

Unruly customer: 2:23 p.m., officers responded to an incident at a retail store at 25250 Pacific Highway S. An unruly customer threatened staff, later returning to their vehicle and making additional threats while brandishing a weapon. The suspect fled the area before officers arrived.

April 22

Stolen vehicle pursuit: An overtime officer received a Flock camera alert regarding a stolen vehicle. After locating the vehicle, the officer attempted to wait for backup. The driver, realizing police were nearby, fled the area, and a pursuit ensued. Officers coordinated the response, and the pursuit ended with three juveniles being taken into custody.

Vehicle, foot pursuit: An officer received a Flock camera alert for a stolen vehicle traveling westbound on South 277th Street. While waiting for aviation support, the driver fled. Aviation initiated and supported a pursuit, which tracked the vehicle until it stopped on Military Road South. Multiple individuals fled on foot. One suspect surrendered after hearing a K-9 warning, and three additional suspects were located with the assistance of a K-9 track. All four individuals were identified as juveniles.

April 23

Threats with a weapon: Officers responded to a report initially described as threats with a weapon, which appeared to involve attempted auto theft and harassment. Officers identified the suspect with active warrants and conducted a thorough search. One officer located the individual hiding in a yard waste bin. The suspect was safely detained and booked on local warrants.

Drive-by shooting: 1:33 p.m., officers responded to a witness report of a drive-by shooting incident near Central Avenue and James Street. The witness reported seeing a male passenger holding a firearm and observed a shot being fired at another vehicle. Both vehicles left the area, and the reported victim did not contact police. The suspect vehicle was later located in Renton and impounded pending a search warrant.

Threat investigation: Officers were dispatched to a report of threats involving a weapon in the 700 block of Central Avenue South. The reporting party stated that an employee had pointed a firearm at them outside a business. Officers interviewed the reporting party and reviewed exterior surveillance footage, which did not confirm the initial allegation. Further review of interior footage revealed a separate incident involving the same employee but under different circumstances. When confronted, both the reporting party and the suspect provided revised accounts. The case was documented and closed.

April 24

Robbery: 5:31 p.m., officers responded to a robbery in the 1100 block of Central Avenue North. The victim reported being approached in a parking lot by an unknown individual who attempted to direct them into a vehicle. When the victim refused, the suspect took a necklace from the victim and fled in a vehicle. Officers conducted an area check but could not locate the suspect.

April 25

Shots fired: 4:07 p.m., officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 10100 block of Southeast 248th Street. Upon arrival, they located both parties involved and secured the scene. The incident stemmed from a disagreement related to a personal matter. The investigation is ongoing.

April 26

Disorderly conduct: Officers responded to a disorderly conduct call near Second Avenue and Meeker Street. A highly intoxicated individual reportedly confronted a mother and her child, prompting them to seek safety inside a nearby business. The business owner secured the premises and called 911. Officers contacted the suspect, who was arrested for disorderly conduct. The confronted individual was evaluated and later transported to Harborview Medical Center for further treatment.

Domestic incident: Officers responded to a domestic disturbance involving family members in a residence. An ongoing household conflict was reported and based on the investigation and applicable domestic violence laws, one individual was arrested and booked into the city jail.

April 27

Impaired driving: Officers handled two separate impaired driving cases. In the first, a suspect collided with a dumpster and was determined to be significantly impaired. In the second case, the driver appeared to be under the influence of drugs. A drug recognition expert assisted, and a blood warrant was obtained for further testing.

Disorderly behavior: Officers responded to a report of multiple individuals operating quads and motorcycles recklessly near a police substation. One individual attempted to open a patrol vehicle door. When officers attempted contact, the individuals fled the area. Surveillance footage from the scene was requested for review.
