BOYS HOOPS: KR’s Rasmussen remains hot, burns Tahoma; KW, K-M, KL fall

Craig Rasmussen continued to deliver for the Kentridge High boys basketball team on Tuesday night.
Rasmussen, a 6-foot-4 senior, delivered 20-plus points for the third time in the last two weeks, leading Kentridge past Tahoma 79-51 in a South Puget Sound League North Division game.
The win helped the Chargers rebound from last Saturday’s 65-53 loss to Auburn and was Kentridge’s fourth in its last five games.
Rasmussen led four Chargers (8-3 in league, 11-4 overall) in double-figures scoring. Dylan Zylstra added 14 points for Kentridge while Denzel Daniels chipped in 10 and Brendan Westendorf tallied 10.
Kentridge bolted out to a blistering start and led the Bears (2-8, 4-9) 44-20 at halftime.
Tahoma held Kentridge star Gary Bell to a season-low six points. Bell’s previous low came on two weeks ago, when Kent-Meridian held him to 12 points. Bell is averaging 23.7 points per game, second in the SPSL North.
ELSEWHERE
• Auburn Riverside 72, Kentwood 56: Dustin Hegge scored a game-high 15 points, leading the Ravens (6-5, 9-6) past the Conquerors (6-5, 6-8) in a pivotal SPSL North game.
The loss dropped Kentwood into a three-way tie with Auburn and Auburn Riverside for third place in the North. The top five teams advance to the postseason. Meanwhile, Jefferson (5-5, 8-6) remained a game behind KW, AR and Auburn in the win column.
Tre Tyler led the Conquerors with 14 points.
• Jefferson 75, Kentlake 53: The Raiders (5-5, 8-6) put away the Falcons (4-6, 5-9) in the third quarter, going on a 24-10 run to essentially seal the victory.
Eric Smith led Kentlake with 14 points.
• Auburn 68, Kent-Meridian 52: K-M’s Davontae Hoffman scored a team-high 12 points, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Kevin Henderson (25 points) and the Trojans.
