Kent Police arrest man for allegedly kidnapping girlfriend

Witnesses reportedly saw the man dragging the woman into a vehicle during March 14 incident

Kent Police arrested a 30-year-old man for investigation of kidnapping and assault after he allegedly forced his girlfriend into his vehicle.

At about 5:38 p.m. Friday, March 14, numerous people called 911 to report a kidnapping of a woman, according to a Tuesday, March 18 Kent Police Facebook post.

The incident started outside of a business along Washington Avenue. A man and a woman had been inside, possibly arguing, according to police. The man then dragged the woman outside and reportedly forcibly pulled her into his vehicle.

Witnesses tried unsuccessfully to intervene but were able to get the license plate and call 911 as the vehicle fled.

About 10 minutes later, another person called 911 to say that she was parked near the 10800 block of SE 240th Street and just saw a woman run from a parked vehicle. She watched as the driver bailed from the vehicle, reportedly chased her down and dragged her back inside the car, according to police.

The license plate on the vehicle matched the one from the alleged kidnapping 10 minutes earlier. A second person at this location also called 911 when he allegedly saw a man dragging a woman, according to police. Officers were already close as they were looking for the car from the original call. They caught up with the vehicle and did a high-risk stop in the 15200 block of SE 240th Street.

Officers rescued the woman, 22, of Ocean Springs, Mississippi. She had bruising and injuries consistent with a struggle, but otherwise will be OK, according to police.

Officers took the man, also of Ocean Springs, into custody for investigation of kidnapping and assault. DUI charges against the man are pending the results of a blood test. The man was the woman’s boyfriend of a year, according to police. They recently moved here from out of state.

Officers contacted Renton-based Project Be Free to get the woman set up with temporary housing, according to police. She contacted her family out of state.

Kent Police thanked the people who called 911 to help lead to the arrest of the man.
